Peel and core the apples and slice into thin rounds. In a blender combine the flour, eggs, milk, salt, sugar, and rum, and blend for 10 seconds. In a heavy skillet heat the cooking oil until hot but not smoking. Transfer the milk mixture into a bowl and add the apple slices. With a slotted spoon fry several apple slices at a time until golden, turning once. Drain on paper towels. Repeat until all the apples are cooked. Serve with the red currant jelly or sprinkle with confectioner╒s sugar.
